Roof Cleaning

Those black streaks are alive. We remove them without touching a shingle.

The dark stains on North Georgia roofs are a cyanobacteria colony feeding on the limestone filler in your shingles. Left alone it shortens roof life and raises cooling bills. Pressure washing a roof voids the warranty; our no-pressure process is the method shingle manufacturers recommend.

How we do it

Roof Cleaning without the damage

We apply a roof-cleaning solution at roughly the pressure of a garden hose, let it work, and the streaks disappear — usually within the same visit, sometimes over the next few rain showers for very heavy moss or lichen.

No one walks on your roof unless there is no other way to reach it, and no high-pressure water ever touches the shingles. Gutters and downspouts are flushed afterward so runoff does not land on your landscaping.

Process

What happens on the day

Roof assessment

We check the pitch, material, age and access, and look for loose shingles or flashing issues worth telling you about before we start.

Landscaping protection

Downspouts are diverted or bagged and plants below the roofline are pre-soaked and rinsed throughout.

No-pressure application

The solution is applied from the eave or a ladder with a soft-wash pump. It sits and does the work.

Rinse where needed

Metal and tile are rinsed; shingle roofs are generally left to rinse with rain, which is what manufacturers prefer.

“Easy to work with and did a great job. They took great care of the plants and bird houses around our house while they worked to ensure they were safe. The house looks so clean now!”

Questions

Roof Cleaning FAQ

Will roof cleaning damage my shingles?

Not the way we do it. The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association specifies a low-pressure sodium-hypochlorite cleaning for algae; that is exactly our process. High-pressure washing is what strips granules.

How long before the streaks come back?

Typically four to six years, longer on roofs with good sun exposure. We can add zinc or copper strips at the ridge if you want to extend that.

Do I need to be home?

No. We need access to exterior water spigots and for pets to be inside or away from the work area.

What does roof cleaning cost?

It depends on square footage, pitch and how heavy the growth is. Most single-family roofs in our area fall in a few-hundred-dollar range; we quote exactly after seeing the roof.

Tell us what needs cleaning and we'll send a written quote — usually the same day. No deposit, and you don't pay until you've seen the result.
